Any general-industry employer whose workplace contains permit-required confined spaces — tanks, vessels, silos, vaults, pits, sewers, manholes, and similar enclosed spaces with hazardous atmospheres or other serious hazards.
How Confined Space Entry Applies to Food Processing
Food plant permit spaces are widespread: silos (engulfment + asphyxiation), CIP-tank entry, ammonia-room entry, sewer manholes, and product mixers. Sanitation-shift entries are the highest-risk routine activity and the source of multiple recent multi-fatality incidents.
